It has since been utilized to make products such as jute cloth, handbags, sacking bags and Hessian cloth. Jute is also used in the production of natural area rugs, carpets and even for the backing on linoleum.

Jute may well become the popular and affordable eco-friendly fiber as it is quite strong with a stem that contains a woody core and only four to six months to grow to maturity it can be harvested more quickly than trees therefore making it a very attractive alternative to wood to help prevent or reduce deforestation.

Jute is looking good as another source for making paper and although its texture is rough you can find threads of jute in fabric like imitation silk. You may also be surprised to find Jute turning up in the garden as it is biodegradable it is used in landscaping projects and in the pots for plants being planted straight into the ground.
